Outreach During Friday Prayer at MGIAL Yuen Long
Date: 20th June 2025
Location: MGIAL Yuen Long
On 20th June 2025, the Multicultural Health Services (MCHS) team took our outreach efforts to MGIAL Yuen Long, engaging with the community during the weekly Friday Prayer gathering.
Friday prayers bring together a large, diverse cross-section of Hong Kong’s multicultural population โ families, elders, working adults, and youth. Recognising this as a valuable opportunity to meet people where they already gather, we set up an information and consultation point to offer accessible, culturally appropriate health guidance.
What We Did at MGIAL Yuen Long
Our team of registered pharmacists and multicultural health education officers provided on-the-spot support tailored to the community’s needs:
- Minor Ailment Service: Attendees received free, face-to-face consultations for common health concerns such as colds, coughs, skin rashes, and allergies โ delivered with language support in Urdu, Hindi, and English.
- Medication Management Counselling: For individuals managing chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, or asthma, we offered medication reviews, adherence advice, and guidance on recognising side effects or drug interactions.
- Chronic Disease Education: We shared practical, easy-to-understand information on preventing and managing long-term health issues, with a focus on lifestyle modifications, nutrition, and regular monitoring.
- Health Education Ambassador Recruitment: We introduced our Multicultural Health Education Ambassador Training program, inviting community members to become peer educators who can spread accurate health information within their own networks.
Why Outreach at Friday Prayer Matters
For many in Hong Kong’s ethnic minority communities, visiting a clinic or hospital can feel intimidating due to language barriers, unfamiliar systems, or cultural differences. By bringing our services to a familiar, trusted community setting like MGIAL Yuen Long, we remove those obstacles.
Events like this reflect the MCHS commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Access to Health for All. We believe that healthcare information should not be confined to clinics โ it should travel to the places where people live, pray, and connect.
A Special Thank You
We extend our sincere gratitude to the leadership and congregation of MGIAL Yuen Long for welcoming us and facilitating this outreach. Your cooperation made it possible for us to reach individuals who might otherwise remain underserved.
Thank you also to every community member who stopped by our table, asked questions, and shared their health concerns with us. Your trust is the foundation of everything we do.
