Outreach During Dua Foundation Ladies Event at MGICC
Date: 27th September 2025
Location: MGICC (Muslim Garden Islamic Cultural Centre)
On 27th September 2025, the Multicultural Health Services (MCHS) team had the privilege of participating in the Dua Foundation Ladies Event held at MGICC (Muslim Garden Islamic Cultural Centre).
This special gathering was dedicated to women from the multicultural community – mothers, daughters, elders, and caregivers – providing a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment for connection, learning, and empowerment. Recognising that women often serve as the primary health decision-makers for their families, we tailored our outreach to address the unique health concerns and questions of female attendees.
What We Did at the Dua Foundation Ladies Event
Our team of registered pharmacists and multicultural health education officers provided a range of women-focused, culturally sensitive services:
- Minor Ailment Service: Free, private consultations for common health concerns such as seasonal colds, headaches, digestive issues, skin conditions, and allergies – delivered with empathy and in Urdu, Hindi, and English.
- Medication Management Counselling: Personalised medication reviews for women managing chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disorders, and asthma, covering adherence strategies, side-effect management, and drug interaction prevention.
- Maternal and Reproductive Health Education: Guidance on nutrition during pregnancy, postnatal care, breastfeeding support, family planning, and managing common pregnancy-related discomforts – all in a culturally respectful manner.
- Mental Health and Well-being: Given the often-unspoken stresses faced by multicultural women – including isolation, caregiving burden, and language barriers – we provided information on recognising anxiety and depression, coping strategies, and when to seek professional help.
- Chronic Disease Prevention: Practical advice on heart health, diabetes prevention, bone health (osteoporosis awareness), and healthy eating tailored to South Asian home-cooked meals.
- Multicultural Health Ambassador Recruitment: We introduced our Multicultural Health Education Ambassador Training program, encouraging women to become certified peer educators who can share accurate health information within their family and social networks.
- Children’s Health Information: For mothers with young children, we provided guidance on childhood immunisation schedules, common paediatric ailments, nutrition, and when to seek medical care.
Why Ladies-Only Events Matter for Community Health
For many women in Hong Kong’s ethnic minority communities, cultural and religious considerations may make mixed-gender healthcare settings uncomfortable. Ladies-only events like the Dua Foundation Ladies Event create a safe space where women can speak openly about their health without hesitation or embarrassment.
By partnering with the Dua Foundation, MCHS ensured that women – often the backbone of family health – received the information, support, and resources they need to care for themselves and their loved ones.
This event reflects our core mission: Diversity, Equity, and Access to Health for All.
A Special Thank You
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Dua Foundation for organising this wonderful event and inviting MCHS to participate. Your dedication to empowering multicultural women is truly inspiring.
Thank you also to MGICC for hosting us, and to every woman who trusted us with her health questions and stories. Your strength and resilience drive our work forward.
