Outreach During Friday Prayer at Khatme Nabuwat Tuen Mun
Date: 05th September 2025
Location: Khatme Nabuwat, Tuen Mun
On 5th September 2025, the Multicultural Health Services (MCHS) team continued our community outreach efforts by attending the Friday Prayer gathering at Khatme Nabuwat Tuen Mun. This marked our second Friday Prayer outreach event, following our successful engagement at MGIAL Yuen Long in June.
Friday Prayer congregations bring together a wide cross-section of the multicultural community โ working adults, elders, youth, and families. Recognising this as a trusted and regular gathering point, we set up an accessible health information and consultation booth to serve attendees before and after prayers.
What We Did at Khatme Nabuwat Tuen Mun
Our team of registered pharmacists and multicultural health education officers provided free, on-site services tailored to the community’s expressed needs:
- Minor Ailment Service: Attendees received face-to-face consultations for common health concerns including seasonal coughs and colds, headaches, digestive issues, and skin conditions โ with clear explanations and advice delivered in Urdu, Hindi, and English.
- Medication Management Counselling: For individuals managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, or asthma, we offered medication reviews, adherence support, side-effect recognition, and guidance on preventing dangerous drug interactions.
- Chronic Disease Prevention Education: We shared practical, easy-to-understand information on lifestyle modifications, including diet adjustments suited to South Asian cuisine, the importance of regular physical activity, and routine health monitoring.
- Blood Pressure Awareness: Given the high prevalence of hypertension in multicultural communities, we provided verbal education on recognising warning signs, understanding readings, and the importance of consistent medication use.
- Health Ambassador Recruitment: We introduced the Multicultural Health Education Ambassador Training program, inviting community members to become trained peer educators who can spread reliable health information within their families and social networks.
Why Returning to Friday Prayer Outreach Matters
Our first Friday Prayer outreach at MGIAL Yuen Long received such positive feedback that we were eager to replicate the model at Khatme Nabuwat Tuen Mun. These gatherings offer a unique opportunity โ a concentrated, diverse audience in a familiar and trusted environment.
By returning to this approach, MCHS demonstrates its commitment to meeting communities where they already are, rather than expecting them to navigate unfamiliar clinical settings. This is the essence of equitable access to health for all.
A Special Thank You
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the leadership and congregation of Khatme Nabuwat Tuen Mun for their warm welcome, cooperation, and trust. Your openness allowed us to reach individuals who might otherwise remain underserved.
Thank you also to every community member who took a moment to speak with our team, ask questions, and share their health concerns. Your engagement is what makes our work meaningful.
